Getting Started: ExtJS

So, you`ve seen the examples of ExtJS, and now you want to start a fresh new project for yourself? Well good idea! But wait, how do we get started? First of all, your #1 stop should be http://www.extjs.com/learn/Learn_About_the_Ext_JavaScript_Library , where there are countless articles describing some of the basic stuff you should master before attempting a solo run @ a project.

After you are done reading all that, and you are still hungry for more? Check out the book called ‘ExtJS in Action’, composed of 15 chapters which will get you on your way with ExtJS in no time. Check out this thread for more info.

Now, the next step would be for you to go over to the extension section and check out all the other developers that have already made plugins/extensions for the most common functionality you ever want. Things like package dependency loaders, SuperComboBox and loads more are all made available at the Extension subforum.

In my next article I will briefly describe some of the best extensions out there that shouldn`t be missed out on.

Update: Found this book while scouring VinylFox`s blog. Might be interesting for a reference.

Hello world!

Hello world!

So finally I see myself attempting to start up this blog that hopefully will be filled with many interesting articles that are mainly based on my experiences with ExtJS, CakePHP and all kinds of related technologies.

First of, let me tell a little bit about myself. My name is Edwin Platteel, I`m 26 years of age, and currently living in a small village near Leiden, in The Netherlands.
I`m a fulltime webdeveloper for a company that specialises in optimising Harbour Logistics and developing services for all contractors in the Rotterdam and Amsterdam Harbour.

I share my home with my lovely girlfriend Jantine and my 3 pet goldfish, love to play soccer in my spare time, read books or developing some new projects based upon idea`s I`ve had for a long time.

I started this blog to share my experience with some frameworks that have gotten my attention lately, naming ExtJS and CakePHP. I`ve found the combination of these two to be a killer-combo in terms of rapid application development and extensive usability features.  I`ve always had a passion for Usability Design in the Web Environment, and thats the main reason I`ve been so fond of frameworks like ExtJS, that enables the developer to build an userfriendly app in a generic way, without too much hassle.

For now this will be the first of many articles to come,  so expect some nice things like how-to`s, tutorials and examples showing up here, all Web 2.0+ related or interesting enough to be mentioned by me.
